Deciding to enter into a coaching relationship is not a decision that should not be taken lightly. Coaches can be critical in helping you address why you haven’t been able to accomplish your goals. They can also help you remain accountable once you do have a breakthrough. However, you have to do the work. The coach will be there to help you tap into your own power, but ultimately the coach is not there to give you advice or tell you what to do. A fundamental concept in coaching is that you are the expert, and by removing blocks, you can tap into your power and move forward. It’s a transformative relationship with the coach being the expert on the coaching process and you (as mentioned) being the expert on you. This creates the catalyst for sustainable change.
What Does a Coach Do?
Coaches have the skills and knowledge to advise, support, and encourage their clients. They help them to:
- Make sound decisions
- Take effective actions
- Resolve their challenges in the most efficient way possible
- Learn from the process, so they can repeat it whenever they want
A coach also can remain detached from the issues at hand.
Consider the wise words of Albert Einstein: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
Life is more complex today, and it is speeding up every time you turn around. It doesn’t take long before we begin to have thoughts of overwhelm and feelings of burnout. We need to ask ourselves: “How long can I justify spending time and money on this issue trying to figure it out without resolving the blocks that are keeping me from accessing the solution?” One of the biggest reasons my clients engage with me is because having a coach helps them save time and money by shortening the path to their breakthrough.
Who Hires a Coach?
I’ve learned that the people who hire a Coach fall into two camps:
- People at the top of their game and want to stay there, or
- People aspiring to be at the top of their game. Wanting to get there as fast as they can
Many people will say that they want to change themselves, their life, their job, or their circumstances, but in real terms, they fear to change. .. Lacking the confidence to get to the next level, procrastination and excuses are often made. It’s human nature and what people doThe secret ingredient is not to stay stuck here…
People who hire a Coach are not ordinary people. They are inspired and have vision. embrace change, and are prepared to fully engage in making positive changes in their life. Plus, they don’t want it to take forever! They have a sense of urgency and need someone they can lean on, confide in, use as a sounding board, and rely on to help them make the inevitable tough decisions that enable them to accomplish their goals.
Is Hiring a Coach Right For You?
Maybe. Maybe not.
- Are you at a point where NOT taking action costs you time and money?
- Do you feel stuck and unable to make progress on your goals?
- Could you use encouragement and guidance to break through your mental blocks?
- Could you benefit from having someone to hold you accountable for making progress?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, perhaps a coach can get you moving in the right direction to help you create the life you desire - sooner rather than later.
